The
Biography of The Hon. Vincent Arthur Peet, LLB. (Hons.) Member
of Parliament – North Andros and The Berry Islands.
Minister of Financial Services and Investments
The Hon. Vincent Arthur Peet, born October
25, 1953 in the picturesque isle of Stafford Creek, Andros,
is the son of Arthur Peet and the late Letis Neely. He obtained
his early education in his hometown of Andros, and later relocated
to New Providence where he furthered his studies at Queen’s
College from 1967-1972.
Minister Peet, a dedicated Civil Servant,
served his country with distinction for three (3) years in
1972-1975 at The Public Service Training Centre. In 1975-1976,
he matriculated at the University of the West Indies (UWI)
at Kingston, Jamaica, Mona Campus where he obtained a Certificate
in Management Studies. In 1976-1980, he studied at UWI Cave
Hill Campus in Bridgetown, Barbados where he obtained his
LLB Degree with Honours. In 1980-1981, he received a Certificate
in Legal Education from The Norman Manly Law School in Jamaica.
Minister Peet returned home to serve his
country as Crown Counsel in the Attorney General’s Office
in 1981. He served as the Leading Prosecutor for several years
before entering private practice in 1986 where he continued
to serve his fellowmen as an attorney and founder of Vincent
Peet & CO. Law Firm.
Minister Peet won a seat in The Honourable
House of Assembly as a Member of Parliament for the South
Beach Constituency in 1987, and was appointed as Minister
of Consumer Affairs in October of 1990. His responsibilities
included: The Broadcasting Corporation of the Bahamas, (ZNS),
Bahamas Telecommunications Corporation, (BATELCO), Bahamas
Electricity Corporation, (BEC), Water & Sewerage Corporation,
and the Rent and Price Control Units.
Additionally, Minister Peet served as a
former Chairman of the Progressive Liberal Party, (PLP) where
his dynamic leadership and unwavering commitment to nation
building are unquestioned.
Minister Peet willingly offered himself
as a candidate in the 2002 General Elections and became the
Member of Parliament for North Andros and The Berry Islands.
Following the PLP’s overwhelming victory at the polls
on May 2nd, 2002, he was appointed Minister of Labour and
Immigration, a portfolio he held until Tuesday February 22nd,
2006. His responsibilities were inclusive of but not limited
to labour education, manpower and employment, employment agencies,
trade unions, trade disputes, wage councils, inspection and
safety, and workmen’s compensation. He also had an on-going
relationship with The Bahamas Industrial Tribunal, the Immigration
Department with matters pertaining to emigration, nationality,
citizenship, work and residency permits.
In addition, Minister Peet was appointed
Government Leader in the Honourable House of Assembly in May
2002.
In a National Address to the Nation, the
Rt. Honourable Perry G. Christie, Prime Minister of The Commonwealth
of The Bahamas announced a Cabinet reshuffle which resulted
in the Honourable Vincent A. Peet, MP being named as the new
Minister of Financial Services and Investments effective Wednesday
February 23rd, 2006. His responsibilities are: Promotion of
the Financial Services Industry, promotion and facilitation
of Domestic and Foreign Investment, on-going relations with
The Bahamas Agricultural & Industrial Corporation (BAIC),
Small Business Development, Industry and Manufacturing, Industries
Encouragement, processing of applications to the National
Economic Council and Investment Board, co-ordination of the
Domestic Investment Board, processing of applications under
the Hotels Encouragement Act, relations with the Hotel Corporation
of The Bahamas, relations with the Financial Services Board,
the Consultative Forum and other representative bodies in
the Financial Services Industry as well as the Promotion of
Electronic Commerce Industry.

proud parents of Vinette Monique Peet, 20 years old and
Ronald Alex Vincent Peet, 17 years old.
- Minister Peet, an avid sports fan, enjoys
a variety of sporting activities.
